Srinagar, May 26 (KNO): A high-powered committee comprising representatives from Government of India and leaders from Ladakh is set to meet on Tuesday morning in New Delhi to deliberate on the key issues concerning the Union Territory. Members of Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) - the two organisations spearheading demand for constitutional safeguards and statehood for the newly carved Union Territory- have arrived in New Delhi to participate in the meeting to be held under chairmanship of Minister of State for Home, Nityanand Rai, at North Block. “The meeting will begin at 10: 00 am,” former minister and member of LAB, Chering Dorjey told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). “We will stick to our key demands,” he added. In the last round of talks, the two sides had almost reached an understanding over employment in the region. The MHA had agreed to reserve 95 percent jobs for locals of the UT. It is worthwhile to mention that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had constituted a high-powered committee chaired by Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai for the Union Territory of Ladakh. The committee is empowered to discuss measures to protect the region’s unique culture and language taking into consideration its geographical location and strategic importance. Its mandate also encompasses measures for protection of land and employment for the people of Ladakh—(KNO)
